A little history... and a little buzz.

The Raccoon and the Bee Tree is one of 27 American Indian Folktales, recalled from childhood and first written down by the celebrated Native American physician, Dr. Charles Eastman. The whole collection of stories was first published over 100 years ago. Here is a link to a second edition of Wigwam Evenings as published in Boston in 1929 by Little, Brown, & Company.

The current edition, published by the South Dakota Historical Society Press*, has won two prestigious "Mom's Choice Awards," a gold for illustration and a silver for the Folk Tales and Legends category.

The publisher tells us that the first edition
is selling out quickly, and that a second edition is perhaps in the works. That means collectors will want to move quickly to get signed, vintage, first-edition books.

*The Raccoon and the Bee Tree is the fourth in a Children's book series called “Prairie Tales” published by SDHSP.  Click here to visit the website.
